Lunch at Space 220 Restaurant -Epcot-Walt Disney World

Looking to beat the heat and enjoy a meal at one of Epcot’s newest restaurants? During our most recent visit, we scored same day lunch reservations to Space 220 Restaurant and in this blog, I will share what it was like to dine 220 miles above the Earth!

Reservations

Much like any restaurant at Disney, reservations are highly recommended. In full transparency, Matt and I woke up at 6:00am 6 weeks prior to our trip to book our reservations and Space 220 was the first one we tried to book because we had never been before. As soon as 7:00am hit, we clicked through to our dates and it was already completely booked. Fast forward to the day of. We are in the park and walking around at about 9:00am and I thought I would check just for fun. At Space 220 you can book the actual restaurant or you can book the lounge (bar). I checked the bar first and it was still fully booked, but I switched over to the restaurant and there were two reservations available for lunchtime!! I was so excited and immediately booked for 1:30pm.

To book you can:

  • Utilize the My Disney Experience App.

  • Go online to Space220.fla.com or disneyworld.disney.go.com

  • Approach the restaurant check in desk to ask on the day of to see if you can be added to the walk-up list. We saw many people doing this while we waited for our check in time, and they were either quoted wait times or told there was no availability for the time they were asking about due to capacity.

Some Things To Know

Inside the restaurant.

  • You can either book the restaurant or the lounge. If you book the lounge, you can order a La carte off the menu and will be sat at the bar. If you book the restaurant, you will participate in the pre fixed menu.

  • Lunch is from 11:30am-3:30pm and Dinner is from 4:00pm-9:00pm.

  • Lunch is two courses and Dinner is three courses at $55 per adult or $79 per adult.

  • They do not accept the Disney dining plan.

  • The menu features modern American cuisine.

  • The restaurant is located right next to the attraction Mission: Space

  • You must cancel at least 2 hours prior to your reservation to avoid a per-person cancellation fee. If you fail to cancel with sufficient notice or don’t show up for your reservation, the credit card provided at the time of reservation will automatically be charged $10.00 per person.

  • Since opening, they have distributed unique collectible trading cards. The only way to acquire these souvenirs is by ordering a kid’s meals or to be one of the lucky patrons that gets a special random visit from the Executive Chef Marc Kusche during his daily table visits.

Arrival

Head over towards Mission: Space (between Guardians of the Galaxy and Test Track) and you will see the sign pictured above for Space 220 Restaurant. Follow that pathway along the right-hand side and you will come to the signs below.

Here you will see a sign with a menu, as well as a directional sign telling you to wait for a cast member. The cast member is actually around the corner, so go ahead and take a peek as they are seated at a desk and do not come over to get you. Once you check in for your reservation (you can do so 20 minutes before your actual reservation time but they may not be able to seat you until your reservation time), then a cast member will direct you down a hallway and into the next room.

As you pass through the hallway (pictured above) you will also pass the stroller parking area.

Once inside the next building, you will give the cast member your name, and they will give you an elevator (they call it the Stellarvator) boarding pass that allows you passage to the Centauri Space Station where you will enjoy your meal. We thought this was a cool touch, but you do not get to keep this boarding pass as the person at the top of the elevator retrieves it from you when you give them your name.

After receiving our boarding pass, we got in line behind one other family and waited for the “Stellarvator”. Below is a video showing the “Stellarvator”/elevator ride up to the restaurant.

The ride up creates a fun and immersive experience and helps to enhance the experience of going up 220 miles into space.

Dining Experience/Ambience

Inside the dining room.

Once you exit the elevator you are officially aboard the Centauri Space Station. You pass through a tunnel with spinning produce (photo below) and make your way to a member of the flight crew who takes your boarding pass and then escorts you through the wine rotunda and then to the dining room and your table.

There is a bar in the center of the room along with rows of tables all around. There are two levels to accommodate a very large number of guests. There are windows/screens all along the wall that provide panoramic views of the earth with day or nighttime views. As you dine, spacecrafts, space stations, and astronauts float around in the windows.

I went into the restroom at the end of our meal and saw some fun “spacey” elements that were incorporated. See photos below.

The Food

Matt at our table waiting for our first course to arrive.

Once at our table, our waitress came by to introduce herself and to share a little about the menu. There was a QR code on the table we could use to pull it up (photos below), or she could bring us paper menus if we preferred. We asked her about some of the most popular dishes and then she set off to get us some water while we looked over our options.

The Shuttle Crew

To drink I had a Shuttle Crew which is an “Atmospheric Spirit” containing Ketel One Peach and Orange Blossom Vodka, Vanilla, Tangerine, Red Bull, and Tang Foam for $18. We rate it an 8/10 because we felt like it had a little bit of a chalky aftertaste (probably from the tang).

Starship Lemonade

Matt went with the Starship Lemonade which was one of their “Zero-Proof Cocktails”. On the menu it says that this selection was supposed to include Space 220 Collectible Cards, but we did not receive any. It consisted of Strawberry, Watermelon, Lemonade, and a Glow Cube that you can take home and that is liquid activated for $16. We gave this one a 9/10. It was really tasty and refreshing on this hot summer day.

Starry Calamari

For my “Lift-Off” I went with the Starry Calamari, which was Fried Calamari, Italian Cherry Peppers, Spicy Marinara, Roasted Pepper Citrus Aioli. We gave it a 7/10 because it was just ok and basic Calamari. The aioli sauce was the best part, but it did come out hot and crispy. Not super spacy.

Big Bang Burrata

Matt went with the Big Bang Burrata which had Panzanella Watermelon Salad and Tarragon Dressing. We gave this a 9.5 out of 10. Cheese was amazing, bread was amazing, dressing was light and zingy.

Galactic Miso Salmon

For my “Star Course” I went with the Galactic Miso Salmon. It was Miso Glazed Salmon with Sauteed leeks, Tempura-Fried Mushroom, Curry Blood Orange Beurre Blanc sauce. The sauce was super tasty, but my salmon had a bone in it, and I had asked for it to be cooked well done and it was still cooked medium to medium well. The mushroom was good, but it was really salty and clumped together. 4/10

Steak & Frites

Matt went with the Steak & Frites. A New York Strip steak with Roasted Garlic Butter, Haricot Vert, and French Fries. The fries were good and crispy but needed salt (which was not on the table). The steak was really fatty and hard to navigate. 6/10

I was wearing a Birthday button so at the end of our meal, our waitress surprised me with a free chocolate Birthday cupcake. They do have desserts that you can get but we choose not to go with one and then she brought me this sweet little cupcake with a lit candle and everything.

A photo of our final bill.

Space 220 Restaurant was pretty pricey for lunch. They do not take the Disney dining plan and are on a prefixed menu if you come for lunch or dinner and do not choose the lounge option.

In Conclusion

We were so grateful to have gotten a last-minute reservation at Space 220 restaurant. This had been on our “must try” list since it had opened. Here are some of our key takeaways:

  • Fun ambience inside and on the way up and down.

  • Expensive. If we did it again, we would definitely just do the Lounge option so we could pick and choose our items and have more control over cost.

  • Besides the actual atmosphere not super “spacey” (the food).

  • The appetizers were better than the mains in our opinion.

  • The experience takes about 1.5 hours of part time out of your day so be aware of this when planning.

We hope this helps you decide if this is an experience you and your family should try!

Have you and your family been to Space 220 Restaurant? What did you think? What was your experience like? What did you get to eat or drink? Tell us all about it in the comments.
